Jan. 14, 2025 – When school is out in February, mini-camps at Westchester County Parks are in! Cranberry Lake Preserve in North White Plains and Muscoot Farm in Katonah are offering winter mini-camps from Monday, Feb. 17 through Friday, Feb. 21. Registration opens Thursday, Jan. 16 at noon.
Cranberry Lake Preserve’s winter mini-camp is geared towards children in grades 5 through 8 and will teach outdoor skills including how to kindle fires, techniques for comfort in the winter woods and more. The camp will be in session from Tuesday, Feb. 18 through Thursday, Feb. 20.
Muscoot Farm’s winter mini-camp will let children in grades 4 through 6 experience winter on the farm, which includes hands-on activities such as hiking, cooking, maple sugaring and more. A one-week session is available from Monday, Feb. 17 through Friday, Feb. 21. One-day options are also available during this time.
Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins said, “Cranberry Lake Preserve’s diverse habitats, including forests, wetlands and a serene lake, offer hands-on learning opportunities. Kids can explore nature trails, learn about wildlife, practice orienteering and discover local ecology. Those endeavors foster a love for the outdoors while building confidence and environmental awareness.”
Commissioner of the Westchester County Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation, Kathy O’Connor said, “Children love Muscoot Farm because it lets them indulge in so many engaging and educational activities. The farm features a variety of animals, such as goats, sheep, chickens and cows, which kids can see up close. Muscoot’s interactive experiences and scenic walking trails make it a perfect location for our February mini-camps.”
Cranberry Lake Preserve is at 1609 Old Orchard Street in North White Plains, and Muscoot Farm is at 51 Route 100 in Katonah.
