The Westchester County Department of Parks, Recreation, and Conservation is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Nature Camp Director to lead our summer Nature Camp at the Trailside Nature Museum. This camp provides a unique opportunity to inspire and educate campers, from pre-K through middle school, about the wonders of the outdoors in a fun and engaging environment.
 
The camp runs from July through mid-August, and we are looking for a leader who shares a passion for nature and environmental education.
 
Responsibilities
As the Nature Camp Director, you will:
  • Plan, organize, and oversee all aspects of the summer Nature Camp program.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to camp staff and volunteers.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of campers and staff during camp activities.
  • Develop and lead interactive, educational activities that encourage a love of nature and the outdoors.
  • Communicate effectively with campers, parents, and staff, providing a positive experience for all participants.
  • Manage daily camp operations, including schedules, supplies, and logistics.
 
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
  • A genuine love for the outdoors and experience working in nature-based programs.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Enthusiasm, curiosity, and a positive attitude.
  • Experience working with children, particularly in a camp or educational setting.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., First Aid, CPR).
 
Hours and Compensation
This is an hourly position, with hours from Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the camp season.  Salary is commensurate with experience.
 
Location
Trailside Nature Museum at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, Cross River, NY.
